January isn’t magic. Any random Thursday can be day one.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Waiting for a meaningful date gives a decision an audience and a ceremony, neither of which does any work. The calendar has no opinion about your habits, and the first of the month is identical to the fourteenth in every way that matters. It also costs you weeks that would already be counted. Starting badly on an ordinary day beats starting perfectly on a symbolic one.

Do the smallest version of the thing today, whatever day it happens to be. Write the date down so the start is real rather than intended. When you break it, resume the next morning instead of waiting for the next clean date.
