Stand up for them even if you’re not friends. Right isn’t only for your circle.

It is easy to mistake loyalty for the whole of ethics. Defending your own circle takes almost nothing, because the friendship has already covered the cost. Standing up for somebody you have no connection to is the version with nothing in it for you. That is exactly why it counts as a decision rather than an instinct.

When something unfair happens to a person you barely know, act for one minute as though they were yours. You do not have to become friends afterwards. Right does not run on a guest list.
