Showing up when it’s convenient is a schedule. Showing up when it’s not is a friendship.

Turning up when it fits your day is not really a choice, it is a calendar working out. What people actually register is the time you came when it cost you something, the ride across town, the shift you swapped, the night you were tired and went anyway. That is the only version that tells them where they rank.

Think about who has done that for you and whether it has gone the other direction lately. There is probably one thing this week you could go to that is slightly inconvenient. Go to that one.
