Respect you have to demand is really just attention with a deadline.

LEADERSHIP
Respect that has to be extracted is not respect, it is compliance, and compliance evaporates the second you leave the room. What you get from volume, threats or status is attention, and attention has a shelf life. The real version is slower and much quieter, and it shows up as people repeating what you said when you are not there. You cannot rush it and you definitely cannot demand it.
Stop auditing who is giving you enough of it. Spend the same energy on being reliable and fair for a few months and check again. It tends to arrive while you are busy.
Where are you demanding respect instead of earning it slowly?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
