Confidence says “I can.” Arrogance says “only I can.” Teams can smell the difference.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Confidence and arrogance sound alike for about a sentence and then separate completely. One of them leaves room for other people to also be capable, and the other quietly requires that they are not. Teams work this out fast, usually before anyone could explain how, because the second version shows up as who gets interrupted and whose ideas get skipped. What gets sensed is not your self-belief, it is whether there is space beside it.

When you say you can handle something, add who else could. Then let one of them do it sometimes.
