Whatever authority you have was handed over by the people under it, and they can take it back without ever announcing it. It usually goes gradually: someone stops bringing you things, then two people decide something without you, then you find out afterwards. Treating the position as owned is what speeds that up. Treating it as borrowed keeps you asking whether it is still being given.

Check the small signals this week rather than the formal ones. Notice whether anyone is bringing you problems or only results. If nothing difficult reaches you, the loan is being called in and the paperwork has not caught up.
