Clout has an expiration date. Respect gets better with age.

Attention runs on novelty, so whatever it is currently on will move, and it will move for reasons that have nothing to do with you. Respect works on a longer clock because it accumulates from behaviour rather than from interest. That makes it slow to build and very hard to lose, which is the opposite trade to the fast kind. Most people chase the version that is easy to get.

Ask which of the two you have been spending your week on. If it is mostly the fast kind, put some of that energy into something with no audience attached, done well and repeatedly.
