The red ink on your paper isn’t an attack. It’s a map somebody drew for free.

A marked-up page looks like a judgment and works as directions. Somebody read your writing carefully enough to find the specific places it went off, which takes real time and is something almost nobody will do for you again after school. The volume of marks measures attention rather than failure. Feeling defensive is normal, and it costs you the use of them.
Read the comments a day later, once the first sting has gone, and sort them into what to fix and what is taste. Take one recurring note and work only on that for the next piece. Comparing marks across several papers shows you your real pattern.
Whose corrections on your work did you read as an insult?
