A good result confirms and a poor one locates, and the second is more specific information even though it is worse to receive. Passing tells you the general area was fine without pointing at anything. A failure identifies exactly which part did not hold, which is what you need in order to repair it. The unpleasantness and the usefulness arrive together.

Go through a poor result item by item instead of putting it away. Sort what went wrong into what you never learned, what you knew and lost under pressure, and what you misread. Those need different responses, and lumping them together is what makes it feel hopeless.
