Look at a photo of yourself three years ago and the haircut, the phrases and the whole presentation will be slightly unbearable. That cycle never stops, which is a good reason to separate the surface from the person underneath it. Nobody cringes at having been kind in 2022. Nobody looks back embarrassed that they kept going when something got hard.

Spend less energy getting the surface exactly right and more on the two things that never date. Be the one who checks on somebody and the one who finishes. Those hold up in every photograph.
