Making something with your hands, even a bad birdhouse, gives you a kind of proud that no like button can.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pride that comes from making something works differently than pride that comes from approval. Approval depends on who happens to be scrolling; the object in your hands does not. It is proof you took something that existed only in your head and gave it a shape, and it stays proof whether or not anyone ever sees it. Being bad at it barely matters, because the proof is in the finishing.

Make one physical thing before the week is out. A crooked shelf, a loaf of bread, a drawing, a repaired bike chain. Leave it somewhere you will walk past it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you built anything with your hands, however badly?
