The starlight you see tonight left before anyone you know was born. Your problem might not be as urgent as it feels.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Urgency is produced by closeness, not by importance. Something two inches from your face fills your whole view, and a deadline or an argument does the same to a week. Light that has been traveling since before your grandparents existed says nothing about your problem except that the universe is running on a much longer clock. The problem is still real, just not the size it currently feels.

Go outside after dark this week and look up for a few minutes. Then ask the plain version of the question: will this specific thing matter in a year. Some will, and knowing which is the whole point.
