You’re leading every time someone copies what you do, whether you meant to or not.

Influence does not wait for a title. Somebody is already taking cues from how you handle a bad grade, how you talk about people who are not in the room, whether you bother when bothering is optional. You did not apply for that and you cannot resign from it, because it runs on observation rather than permission. The only open question is what is being copied.

Assume one person is watching this week, which is usually true. Pick one behavior you would be fine seeing repeated and be consistent with it. Not a speech about it, just the thing itself, several days in a row: that is the entire method.
