Grateful people aren’t luckier. They’re just paying closer attention.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Give two people the same week and they will describe different lives. The difference is rarely luck; it is which parts got noticed. Bad things announce themselves loudly and good things mostly do not, so without deliberate attention the day gets summarized by whatever shouted. Gratitude is the correction for that, and it is a habit rather than a mood.

At the end of the day, name three specific things rather than categories: not my friends, but the thing someone said at lunch. Specific is what makes it work; general lists go stale in about four days. Give it two weeks before you decide whether it does anything.
