Pride that can’t handle a correction is just fear wearing a nice jacket.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Defensiveness looks like confidence from the outside and behaves like fear from the inside. A correction only threatens you if the image is shaky, which is why someone genuinely sure of their work can accept a fix in about four seconds and move on. The louder the defense, the less certain the person usually is.

Next time you get corrected, watch for the heat in your chest and do nothing with it for ten seconds. Say they are right and you will fix it, if that is true. It costs nothing you actually own, and it is a strange kind of relief.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose correction stung because part of you suspected they were right?
