If you need a crowd to feel brave, you’re not brave yet. You’re just backed up.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Courage that depends on a group is borrowed, and it goes home when they do. It also works in the other direction, which is worth watching: things get said and done inside a crowd that nobody there would do standing on their own. The version that belongs to you is whatever is left when nobody is behind you.

Do one small brave thing alone this week. Speak up when the room is against it, sit somewhere new, ask for something on your own behalf. The point is finding out what your own supply looks like with nobody topping it up.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you still say if your friends walked away first?
