A promise costs nothing to make and a fortune to break.

REFLECTION
Making one is free in the moment. It buys immediate goodwill, the conversation ends well, and everyone leaves happy, which is exactly why people hand them out too easily. The bill arrives later, paid in trust, which rebuilds far slower than it collapses. One broken promise puts an asterisk on everything you say afterwards, even the true parts.
Promise less and smaller this week. Say you will try, or say you will check and come back, when that is the honest version. Then go and keep the ones already outstanding, including the small ones nobody would chase you about, since those are the ones people quietly keep score of.
Which promise did you make quickly and pay for later?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
