There is often a gap between the future people ask for and the person they currently are. The position, the relationship, the responsibility all require capacities that do not arrive with the outcome. Getting what you want before you can carry it tends to end badly, and the preparation is the part you control.

Be concrete about what the future you want would actually demand of you daily. Then work on whichever of those you are furthest from. That is not delay. It is the actual route.
