Correctness and connection are two different prizes, and you can collect one by spending the other. You can dismantle someone’s point completely, be entirely accurate, and end up with a person who no longer wants to talk to you. Nobody else witnesses the win. You are left holding an argument you already knew you were right about, which was never the scarce thing.

When a disagreement with someone close starts heating up, decide early which outcome you want more. If it is the friendship, you can say you see their side and mean it without changing your mind. Being right keeps, and people do not always.
