The person who knows how to follow well usually ends up leading better.

Following well is an active skill and almost nobody treats it as one. It means understanding the plan well enough to spot where it will break, doing your part without being chased, and disagreeing at the right moment rather than at the loudest one. Everything that turns out to be hard about leading is already in that list.

In whatever you are part of, try being unusually good at your own piece for a month. Ask the question that makes the plan better rather than the one that shows you spotted the flaw. That is how people end up being asked to run things.
