Nothing ages faster than the thing everyone said was the future.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Predictions date faster than the things they were about. Whatever gets announced as the future is shaped entirely by the year it was announced in, so it carries that year’s assumptions, that year’s design and that year’s excitement, and all three go stale together. The genuinely lasting things usually arrive without a launch. They get called boring for a while and then become ordinary.

Wait a season before rearranging your life around whatever is being sold to you as inevitable. Ask what it actually does for you today. If the answer is nothing yet, it can keep, and you will not have paid for the first version.
