Weird is just what people call you before they start copying you.

Unfamiliar reads as wrong before it reads as interesting. Whatever people tease you about is often just something they have not seen enough times yet, and the distance between those two reactions can be surprisingly short. Plenty of what everybody does now started with somebody getting looked at funny in a hallway.

Keep the thing you were about to tone down. Wear it, make it, play it out in the open for another month before you decide it was a mistake. If it still feels like yours after that, it was never weird, it was early.
