A trend is a shared decision about what is acceptable this month, with an expiry date built in from the start. Taste is slower and much quieter. It lives in the songs you keep playing when nobody is around, the clothes you wear after the cycle moves on, the films you rewatch for the fourth time. None of it needs defending, which is exactly why it lasts.

List a few things you have liked for more than a year and look at what they share. That pattern is yours. Next time you want something, ask whether it fits the list or only fits this month.
