The clean final cut hides a hundred ugly drafts. Respect what you can’t see.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Finished work is built to look inevitable. Every cut, retake, and abandoned version has been deliberately removed, so what reaches you arrives smooth and confident, as though somebody made it that way the first time. Comparing your messy middle to a polished end is the most common way to conclude you have no talent. The mess was there. It just did not make the upload.
When something impresses you this week, go looking for the process behind it, the outtakes, the early draft, the interview where they admit how long it took. Then let your own draft be ugly on purpose.
Whose finished work made you forget the drafts behind it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
