The celebrities you grew up watching are getting old. So is everyone. Spend your admiration on people you can actually hug.

Admiration aimed at somebody unreachable returns nothing and cannot be acted on. You can follow a career for a decade and remain a stranger, while the person who taught you to drive, or who runs a shop properly, or who raised three kids alone, stands within reach and has never once been told. Distance is comfortable because it asks nothing of you. The close version requires saying something out loud.

Pick one person nearby whose life you actually respect and tell them why, specifically. Not a compliment about how they look, a sentence about what they do and how they do it.
