Coachable people don’t argue with every correction. They try it first and judge it later.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Arguing with a correction before trying it protects the way you already do things. It feels like standing up for yourself, and mostly it just costs you the experiment. Running it their way produces information neither of you had before, and you are still free to decide afterward that it was wrong. Judgment comes after the attempt rather than instead of it.

Next time you get told to change something, do it their way for a full week before pushing back. Then say what you found. Coaches listen very differently to somebody who actually tried.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which correction did you argue with before even trying it?
