Riding free on a group project isn’t smart. It’s a preview of the coworker nobody wants.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Coasting on a group project works until the people carrying it have a say over the next one. They remember, they talk, and a reputation gets set before you notice one forming. It is also rehearsal for a habit that gets expensive later, when the group is a shift rota and the carrying is somebody’s job. Nobody says anything at the time, which is what makes it feel free.
Take one concrete piece of the next group thing and finish it early. Say out loud which piece you are taking so it is on the record. Doing your part is a low bar and a surprisingly strong reputation.
What share of the last group project did you actually carry?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
