Cancel on someone enough times and they’ll stop asking. Then you’ll call it “drifting apart.”

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Each cancellation is small and reasonable on its own, and the other person is counting anyway, not out of spite but because people learn. After enough late texts they stop planning around you, then stop asking, and the invitations quietly dry up. From the inside it looks like everybody just got busy. From their side it was a series of specific evenings they gave up on.

Say yes to fewer things and then actually go. If you have to pull out, do it early and offer another day in the same message. And if somebody has stopped asking you, that is usually fixed by asking them first.
