Self-awareness is looking in the mirror to fix your collar. Self-obsession is never leaving the mirror.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Checking yourself has a purpose and a stopping point: you notice something, adjust it, get on with the day. The version that does damage is the one with no exit, where the looking keeps going and each pass turns up something else. That is not higher standards, it is the same loop running longer. Useful self-examination ends in an action and then ends.
Notice whether your reviewing this week produces decisions or only more reviewing. If it is the second, give it an edge: one look, one adjustment, out the door. Hours spent at the mirror are hours away from people who are not studying you that closely.
How long do you spend checking yourself before you go out?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
