Learning in public means being visibly worse than everyone else for a while, and that is the actual price of entry. The embarrassment is brief and the competence is permanent, though the embarrassment comes first, which is why most people pay a different price and stay where they are. Nobody watching is keeping records. They are mainly thinking about themselves.
Give yourself a fixed period of being bad at it, a month rather than an open ended stretch. Go often enough that you become familiar instead of new. Those awkward weeks are the whole toll, and they do end.
What would you start badly if nobody kept score?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
