A blowout on the highway ruins an afternoon, not the whole road trip. Swap the spare and roll.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A failure inside a longer project feels like the end of the project while you are standing in it. The scale is wrong: an afternoon has broken, the trip has not. Recovery is usually procedural rather than dramatic, involving a delay, some inconvenience and then carrying on. How frustrated you feel is a poor measure of how much damage was done.

After something blows out, ask what portion of the plan is genuinely affected. Repair that part, accept the lost hours, and continue with the rest. Most setbacks cost an afternoon and take a week of worry unless you name the scale out loud.
