When you lose a grandparent, their lessons become your carry-on. Take them everywhere.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

What a person taught you does not leave when they do. Their habits, their phrases, their way of handling a situation stay in how you cook, work and speak to people, usually without you noticing it happen. None of that substitutes for their presence and it was never meant to. It is a real kind of continuation, and it belongs to you now.

When you miss them, try naming one specific thing you do their way. Say it out loud to someone else in the family if you can. Passing small things along is how a person keeps traveling with you.
