Your last name came with a story attached. You get to write the next chapter however you want.

Families hand down expectations, reputations and assumptions, and none of it was voted on by you. Some is worth keeping, and some is simply what happened to the people before you. Inheriting a story is not the same as being required to continue it in the same direction.

Separate what your family is known for from what you intend to be known for, and write both down. Keep the parts that are actually yours. Then behave, over years, in a way that gives the name a second meaning alongside the first.
