When someone makes it look easy, you’re watching a decade of practice squeezed into five seconds.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ease is the final product of an enormous amount of unseen repetition. What you are shown is the successful version, edited, with the thousands of failed attempts left out, which makes the gap between you and them look like talent rather than time. Comparing your practice to someone else’s performance is the most common way to feel untalented.

When something looks effortless, ask how many hours are hidden inside it, and assume the answer is larger than you think. Then look at your own hours honestly. The distance is usually made of time.
