Rereading your old writing is cringe in the best way. The cringe is proof you’ve grown.

RESILIENCE
Discomfort at your old work is a measurement. You can only see what is wrong with it from somewhere further along, which makes the wince evidence of distance travelled rather than evidence you were foolish. Whoever wrote it was doing their best with what they had at the time. Nobody who is still growing enjoys their own archive.
Keep the old drafts instead of deleting them, and reread one occasionally on purpose. Try to name exactly what you would do differently, since that is the skill made visible. Then extend the same patience forward to whatever you are making now.
