Telling a teammate they’re coasting is risky. Letting the whole team lose because nobody said it is worse.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Nobody wants to be the one who says it, so the resentment spreads quietly and the work gets absorbed by whoever notices first. The silence is usually framed as keeping the peace, though what it really does is let the whole group pay for one person’s choices. Said early and privately, it is a small conversation.

Talk to them directly before you talk to anyone else, and be concrete about what is missing rather than about who they are. Offer a specific thing they could pick up. If nothing changes, then raise it with the group with a clear conscience.
