When they ask for a volunteer to hold the mic, your stomach drops. Raise your hand before it finishes dropping.

LEADERSHIP
The gap between the request and your decision is where the talking-out-of-it happens, and it only takes a couple of seconds to lose. Acting inside that window is not recklessness, it is recognising that the analysis about to arrive is not analysis, it is fear producing reasons. The stomach drop happens either way.
Give yourself a rule for the next time something like that is asked: hand up first, thinking afterwards. Use it on low-stakes occasions until it becomes automatic. You can always step back, and you almost never will.
Whose hand goes up while yours stays in your lap?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
