A good teacher makes difficult ideas feel reachable without pretending they are easy.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pretending a hard thing is easy leaves the learner concluding that they are the problem when it turns out to be difficult. Making it feel reachable is different. It means breaking it into honest steps, naming the difficulty plainly, and showing that the difficulty is normal rather than disqualifying. Both the honesty and the encouragement are needed.

When you teach something hard, say that it is hard and then give the first step. That combination keeps people in the room longer than false ease ever does.
