A teacher can provide tools while leaving the building entirely yours.

Tools are transferable, plans are not. You can give someone methods, questions, and ways of judging, and they will use them to build something you would never have designed. Trying to hand over the blueprint as well tends to produce either resistance or a life that does not fit them.

Be generous with the how and restrained with the what. When someone uses what you gave them to build something unfamiliar to you, take it as a sign the tools were good.
