Scales are boring the same way foundations are boring. You only notice them when they’re missing.

Basic work is invisible when it is present and glaring when it is absent, which is a bad combination for motivation. Nobody compliments a solid foundation. They only see the cracks that appear later in something more visible, and by then the cause is several steps back and easy to misdiagnose.

Accept that the boring part will never feel rewarding in the moment and do it anyway on a schedule. Attach it to something you already do so it does not depend on enthusiasm. Judge it by the absence of problems rather than by how it feels.
