Roots are useful until they become an excuse never to grow beyond the soil that formed you.

Where you come from is a genuine resource: it gave you a language, a set of instincts, a sense of what is normal. It becomes something else when it is used to explain why you cannot go anywhere new, and that shift is usually invisible because it sounds like loyalty. Roots are meant to support growth rather than to fix your position.

Notice when you cite your background as a reason rather than as a fact. Ask whether it is describing you or excusing you. The first is history, and the second is a choice.
