Returning home can reveal how much of the change happened inside you.

Going back to a place that has hardly altered makes your own change unmistakable. The rooms are the same, the roads are the same, and you fit into them differently, notice different things, cannot quite locate the person who used to live there. Nothing measures growth as accurately as an unchanged setting.

Use a return visit that way rather than only for nostalgia. Ask what you now see that you could not before, and what no longer bothers you. The place makes an honest instrument.
