Enjoy the compliment for a minute, then get back to work. Praise is a snack, not a meal.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Praise is pleasant and thin. It tells you that something landed, which is useful, but it cannot sustain anything, and if you stay in it too long it starts to replace the appetite for the next piece of work. People who chase the taste of it end up making things designed for compliments instead of things worth making.
Take the compliment properly, say thank you, let it feel good for a minute. Then go back to whatever is unfinished. Keep your sense of whether the work is good anchored in your own judgment rather than in the reaction.
How long does one compliment keep you from working?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
