You won’t hear from a book you never open.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Access is not the same as reading. A book on a shelf changes nothing, and owning it can even substitute for the experience of it, since the intention feels similar to the act. Whatever is in there is only available on the other side of opening it, which is a small, boring, entirely unglamorous step.

Pick a fixed time, five minutes, same place, and read a short section rather than planning a large program. Consistency will take you further than ambition here. If you keep meaning to start, the meaning is not the problem, the opening is.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which book have you been meaning to open for months?
