Self importance is not undone by anyone else. It builds quietly in the way you dismiss advice, take credit, or stop listening to people who once corrected you, and then it fails in some ordinary unglamorous way that everyone saw coming except you. The slip is embarrassing largely because you arranged it yourself.

Ask who currently has permission to tell you when you are wrong, and whether you have listened to them recently. If the answer is nobody, that is the finding. Give one person that permission again this week and take what they say seriously.
