Pride doesn’t feel like pride from the inside. It feels like being right.

Pride is difficult to catch because it does not present as arrogance from the inside. It presents as clarity: you can see what others are missing, your reasons are excellent, and the people disagreeing are being unreasonable. That sense of being correct is the disguise, which is why the feeling itself cannot be used as evidence.

The next time you are completely certain, hold the position and ask one question of the person who disagrees. Try to state their case well enough that they would accept it. Certainty that cannot survive that is worth examining.
