Gentle people aren’t weak. They’re strong enough not to need to prove it.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Gentleness is regularly mistaken for having no other option. In practice the people who can be consistently gentle are those who could escalate and choose not to, and that restraint is only possible when you are not relying on the room to confirm your standing. Someone who has to prove themselves cannot afford to be soft.

In the next disagreement, drop your volume rather than raising it and hold your position anyway. Notice the pull to demonstrate that you could win. Strength that goes unused in that moment is doing more work than the display would.
