Being busy for God and being close to God are two different things.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Activity can substitute for relationship without anyone noticing, including you. Service is visible, measurable and applauded. Closeness is none of those, so it becomes possible to spend every evening on good work and go a month without one honest, unhurried conversation with the One you are working for. The work is not the problem, the substitution is.

Look at your week and count the time that has no output attached to it. If there is none, take twenty minutes and do nothing productive with them. Say the true things rather than the appropriate ones, and let that time stay unmeasured, since what it produces was never the point.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which activity are you using as a substitute for real closeness?
