Sometimes faith is just holding a hand in a hospital room and refusing to let go of hope.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Sometimes belief has no content beyond staying in the room. There is only a hand and a refusal to let the worst version of the story be the only one available. That is not a lesser kind of faith. On the hard nights it is the only kind anyone manages.

If you are sitting with someone right now, you do not need better words than the ones you have. Stay, hold on, and let the silence be all right. And let someone do the same for you, because the person holding the hand needs somebody in the corridor too.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose hand would you want beside you in a waiting room?
