You can miss your grandma like crazy and still have hope. Grief and faith share a pew.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Grief and hope are not rivals, though people often feel they have to pick one and be consistent. You can ache for someone every day and still believe you will see them, and neither of those makes the other dishonest. Missing someone is the shape love takes when they are gone.

Let yourself miss her without apologising for it or putting a clock on it. Say her name out loud, cook the thing she made, tell somebody a story about her this week. Hope does not require you to be over it, and being sad on a Tuesday is not a lapse in faith.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who do you miss, and what would you tell them today?
